Friends

1.2 - STATUS: In development. RELEASE DATE: T.b.c.
THEME: BEATING NEW FRIENDS WITH NEW TACTICS
1.2 is the next major FML update. As always with a full update, there's plenty of exciting stuff to look forward to. The beauty of constant development is that each update is its own beast, and works in a different way. Whilst 1.1 focussed on finances and infrastructure, 1.2 is a completely different prospect and instead develops core areas of community and matchplay.
COMMUNITY
1.2 changes the way you interact with the game and other managers in a big way. Managers can now be added as 'friends' in the game, meaning you'll recieve updates on their activities, be able to send messages to their homepages (see below), and see information now hidden to other managers, such as what skills they possess. The friends feature will have you logging on daily to check what your mates are up to and who's the latest to offer you the hand of friendship!

Home

As the above alludes to, all managers now have a home page. You'll get taken to this page when you sign into the game, and it basically draws together all the strands of your FML life. There's news items on your team, updates on and messages from your friends, invites to votes and competitions, and a great Facebook-style status box that allows you to tell everyone what you're up to. TACTICS

Perhaps the most exciting 1.2 change is that to the tactical system. There's now a new tactics creator that allows you to build unique tactics, in six easy steps. All options draw from a 50-page piece of research called Tactical Theories and Frameworks. That may sound daunting, but the beauty of the Creator is that it condenses all the theory into a set of choices that will take you two minutes to go through! As if that wasn't enough, the entire tactics screen has been streamlined too, and is now much easier for managers both new and old to get to grips with.

Breakdown

GRAPHICS
There's some great new screens in game that allow you to analyse your team a bit more than in the past. From skillset breakdowns to the nature of your fanbase and sources and destinations of your income, understanding your team has never been so easy!

Vibrante

Finally, 1.2 boasts the option of a great new skin, titled 'Vibrante'. With an electric, angular look, and an iconic ocean-blue colour scheme, this skin will literally change the way you look at the game. Many managers have been very impressed with the new skin, and alot have switched to it for good! Congratulations to Chris Rice, the newest member of the FML development team, who designed this skin.

Yes Im in !!!!!!!!!!

As up today I'm in the GW26 / Miller gameworld with my team FC ICARUS. Wow that's very strange the first few times I can tell you. FML development (2)

Football Manager Live FML development

“Fancy yourself as Arsene Wenger, but can’t work out how to explain what you mean to your players? Do they stare at you blankly when you tell them to have mentality 8 and creative freedom 14? Use FML’s new Tactics Creator and be taken step by step through to creating a working tactic that will have your players raving about your tactical mastery in the newspapers every Sunday morning”

In its simplest form it takes the hassle out of having to micromanage an array of sliders and applies some common sense into proceedings.

Shout shout let yourself out
That’s not all we’ve done! When it comes to match day, we’ve added a brand new Shout Instructions button which magically transforms you into Martin O’Neil, jumping up and down on the touchline, fiddling with your glasses and getting those all important instructions across to your lumbering Sunday league team?

You can use this menu to change your match strategy, make quick substitutions or target that dangerous opposition player who is cutting your tactics to shreds.

In fact, whilst writing this blog I gave my skipper the thumbs up that I was making a tactical change and switched my formation around and it had an almost immediate effect as we clawed a goal back. Didn’t actually enable me to win the match but I felt good for a brief moment in time.
I don’t want a wizard
Don’t worry; we were sure that many of you liked things just how they were and so we’ve retained all the previous functionality in the Advanced Instructions section.

FML Development

So, you can imagine what I was thinking when Oliver Collyer announced to the FML team that he was talking to wwfan and Millie about using it for FML.
I’ve never been one for the tactic skills in FML and I much prefer to waste away the hours getting level 5 in finance. In fact when it comes to tactics I’m pretty happy with having just level 1 or 2 and hoping that whoever created the original files knew what they were doing. In times of desperation I might play around with my formation sending by central defender up top to grab me a last minute equaliser but that was the size of it.

All that said, I’m a changed man at the moment and it’s all thanks to the way in which it’s been implemented into FML. Forget PDF, FML has a six step wizard to tactical superiority. Even Oliver Collyer, the brains behind FML is excited at the prospect (and he coded it!)

Tactical Theorems & Frameworks
For those of you out there who are fans of FM and FML, you’ve probably heard a bit about the Tactical Theorems & Frameworks (TT&F) document created by a very clever man from Australia (wwfan) who, with help from others in the community (noticeably Millie), has created the bible amongst hard core tactical minds.

Now, I can honestly confess that I’d heard about it but never read it and if I’m really honest I’d downloaded it but got but got put off by its size (50 pages at the last count). I wonder how many others out there were like me

Friends will be friends
Over the course of the coming few days, we’re going to open your eyes to the wonderful world of v1.2 – the next major release from us as part of our constant development model for FML.
Since the January release of v1.1, much of the work has been in tidying up loose ends and closing loopholes that you, the good subscribers, have been busy reporting to us.
When we eventually got round to discussing our plans for the next major release we had a number of things in mind but the underlying message that we wanted to put out was that we’re focussing heavily on creating a solid platform for the game and this would mean a lot of time spent polishing, tweaking and bug fixing as many areas of the game as possible.
The first area to get our attention was the contacts system. Adding a contact was a one way thing whereby you could pick a member of your gameworld, add him to your list and be notified when he signed in or out and played matches.
Not bad but since we’re already investing a lot of time creating our own little social network for the FML website it would be rude of us not to make the contacts / friends system a lot more like what you guys are used to.
Upgrading gameworlds
The first time you login to your gameworld after we’ve upgraded it to 1.2 you’ll be presented with a series of dialogs and screens that will allow you to upgrade your old style contacts into new style friends. This means you’ll have the chance to initiate a friend request with anyone that you are currently monitoring.

Making and responding to requests
Anytime during the game you can initiate a friend request with someone else and also receive requests from your fellow managers. Don’t worry, if you decide against being friends with someone they’ll never know!

Confirm as friend
Lord of the ring
How many friends you’ve got in FML is not just an extension to your manhood, it’s a circle of trust. Fellow friends can see your skills and importantly get notification of exactly what you’re up to on a day to day, minute-by-minute basis. In addition, they’ll know when you are online and who you are playing in a match. When you want to create a competition or even a vote you’ll get the chance to invite some or all of your friends. A great way to play more matches against your mates.

Add your friends to competitions
Status updates
Facebook and Twitter fans beware; this game could take over your life even more than it already has! The old style status system is gone and in it’s place is a very familiar ability to let the world how you are feeling, who has annoyed you today, what you ate for breakfast, dinner or lunch and other interesting facts about your life.
These updates will be posted to all your fellow friends and eventually will appear on the FML manager pages (did I tell you already these are in development?)

Marc Duffy homepage
You’re my wonderwall!
If all that wasn’t enough to get you excited the final piece of the jigsaw allows you to post messages of support and love to fellow friends on their pages (in Facebook terms you might call this their wall). They’ll have the option to respond and suitably abuse you and your good nature

Friends profile page
New skin
The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that I’m showcasing 1.2 with a new skin, titled Verdante.
Now before anyone complains that it hurts their eyes or that they don’t like it right now it’s optional and will appear via the Add-Ons section. If the reaction from the beta team is good then we’ll consider making it our default – whatever happens we’ll still be supporting the existing ‘Sapanca’ skin
The skin is developed by Chris Rice, a new member of the FML team. Chris is known for his work on some community based skins for FM as well as Cricket Coach 2007.Hold out your hands cos friends will be friendsRight till the end……
Coming tomorrow…Get a sneek preview of the new tactical system designed in collaboration with Richard Claydon and Gareth Millward, authors of ‘Tactical Theorems & Frameworks’
